Project 1
(Artist Statement) My approach with project 1 was to erase all the custom functions and create my own from scratch. I really wanted to stretch my understanding of what I’m writing in my code. This approach meant that I was going based on experimentation rather than a well throughout plan. After a bit of playing around, I ended up on the idea of playing with perspective with the use of lines. I ended on the idea of creating transparent squares, triangles, and lines that have fixed points with the last point controlled by the mouse. These shapes and lines are able to use perspective in a way that makes the image appear 3D.
I believe that my project was relatively successful. It is able to do what I wanted it to do, that being create various shapes and perspectives. The squares in particular look like they’re coming out of the canvas. The way the lines are set up also give the illusion of 3D perspective, when used correctly. One thing that I did notice as well is that my “brushes” can be used like stamp tools, since they create a single shape on the screen or lines with fixed points. The main thing I want to improve on is adding more fixed point lines and colors. I want to be able to make more shapes with the use of different lines rather than relying on actual shapes themselves. My project is best used for creating shapes and abstract art. It is very difficult to draw actual figures with it but when it comes to creating abstract art, it works exceptionally well. My tool is a geometric tool and that was what I wanted it to be. The only thing I would change about it is adding more geometric lines for more options.
